The latest commercial code, ASHRAE 90.1-2007, is now in effect. The biggest change from an insulation point-of-view is that the R-value requirements for above deck roof insulation increases from R-15 to R-20 in all climate zones, a 33-1/3% increase. But ASHRAE has already announced that it plans to increase the energy efficiency of buildings in the next code (2010) by an additional 30%. At this time there is no indication of where or how this increase will appear but it should be more good news for the insulation industry.
